Thus, with the objective of evaluating the initial establishment of the 'Niágara Rosada' vine with different soil covers, through chemical and physical soil parameters and yield in the first harvest, a field experiment was installed in a dystrophic RED LATOSOL, in a randomized block design with three replications and seven cover management treatments: T1 - control: bare soil; and T2 to T7, respectively: wood shavings, coffee husk, sugarcane bagasse, crushed corn cob, rice straw, and bahiagrass, with three replications. The cultivar was 'Niágara Rosada', with straw management before grafting. Eighteen months after the first application of soil covers, routine chemical attributes, macroporosity, microporosity, total porosity, soil bulk density, and soil resistance to penetration were evaluated; in the first harvest, yield was evaluated. Both for soil parameters and for yield, the use of soil cover proved to be effective, and soil cover from coffee husk and corn cob provided the highest grape yield in the first production year.
