The objective of the present study was to evaluate different spraying tips and herbicide application rates in pre-emergence to control Ipomoea grandifolia. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replications, in the factorial scheme (5 x 3) + 1, totaling 15 treatments and one control. The factors were constituted of 5 application rates (50, 75, 100, 150 and 200 L ha-1), 3 spray tips (TT 11001, AVI 11001 and TVI 80050), besides the control that received no application. The spray syrup was prepared in 5 containers, consisting of water, Front® herbicide (diuron + hexazinone + sulfometuron-methyl) and FD&C-5 Yellow marker. The yellow marker at the dose of 6 g L-1 was first weighed on a digital semi-analytical balance after the Front® herbicide at the dose of 2.0 kg ha-1, following the commercial recommendation according to the texture of the ground. In each vessel were weighed 10 liters of water and in a plastic bucket were weighed another 5 liters of water with an electronic digital scale, the water from the plastic bucket was used to dilute the marker Yellow and after the herbicide Front®. After completion of the preparation of the spray syrup, the syrup was kept under constant stirring by returning the pump to the reservoir in order to maintain homogenization of the syrup. Spraying was carried out 60 minutes after sowing I. grandifolia by a spraying simulator of 15 m in length, with hydraulic system composed of a manual pressure controller and hydraulic pump of three pistons, moved by an electric motor of 1.5 kW, equipped with a three-meter spray bar and three spray tips, spaced 0.5 m apart from each other and 0.5 m above the top of the vessels. After the spraying, the percentage of coverage was evaluated, evaluating all replicates in each treatment. Control and counting evaluations were performed at 15, 30, 45 and 60 days after application (DAA). For the control evaluation was adopted the scale of grades from 0 to 100%, where 0 represents the absence of control and 100 the death of all plants. The evaluation of plant count was performed from the count of the number of plants present in each pot. With the results obtained in this work, it is evident the possibility of reducing the rate of application in the weed control in sugarcane cultivation in greenhouse, however, other field trials can prove this possibility. The higher rates of application promoted the highest levels of coverage. Reduction of the application rate with the herbicide Front® did not generate a loss of efficiency in the control of I. grandifolia up to 60 DAA in greenhouse. The spray tip TVI 80050 showed the lowest coverage percentage. There was no significant difference between the spray tips for the control and number of I. grandifolia plants.
