    Efeito de diferentes épocas de desfolha na cultura do milho

    The influence of different defoliation timings on maize crop using hybrid P3431VYH was evaluated. The experiments were conducted at two different locations, Cascavel – PR and Floresta – PR. The treatments were: no defoliation; defoliation at V4; defoliation at V8; defoliation at pre-tasseling and defoliation at post-tasseling, with 4 replicates, in a randomized complete block design. The evaluated variables were: plant height, ear insertion height, green snap, broken plants, dominated plants, stalk rot, grain yield and number of ears. The results showed that defoliation occurring at the early stages (up to V4) allows good recovery of crop development and yield potential. The critical period for defoliation is the pre-tasseling stage. Defoliation at the reproductive stage affects stem integrity.
