    The SENAR‑PR Young Farmer Apprentice Programme (JAA) aims to provide rural youth with knowledge regarding the opportunities available in the countryside, preparing them as skilled professionals while fostering a business mindset and entrepreneurial capacity. Qualified professionals are essential for agricultural activity, and rural vocational training serves to meet labour demand across the diverse sectors of the production chain. Earlier studies were carried out on small groups of young people, leaving the programme’s broader performance unexamined. The JAA Programme, owing to its statewide coverage and 13‑year period of operation, affords the scope required for such an assessment. Accordingly, this research aimed to evaluate the influence of the Young Farmer Apprentice Programme on the human and professional development of participating youth, by characterising participants according to gender, age and origin, and assessing their current occupation together with the practical application of the subject matter covered. Enrolment data spanning 2013 to 2017 were analysed. The research methodology comprised analysis of the SENAR‑PR database and an online survey of programme graduates, using descriptive statistics and the Chi‑square test. The JAA Programme has consistently sustained high levels of participation and approval. Overall enrolment showed no gender disparity; however, female participants recorded lower dropout rates throughout the study period. Participation was dominated by young people aged 14 to 17 years, and the majority of graduates continued in further education. Participant perception of the relevance of course content remained consistent over time, indicating that knowledge acquired is retained and effectively applied on their farms, in their professions, and in their personal development.
