The increasing occurrence of Digitaria insularis (sourgrass) and Chloris. spp. populations resistant to glyphosate, as well as cases of resistance to ACCase-inhibiting herbicides, has reduced the effectiveness of chemical control and increased the need for alternative weed management strategies. In this context, the present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of different herbicide mixtures for the control of these species under field conditions. The experiment was conducted at the experimental area of the Universidade Estadual do Norte do Paraná (UENP), Luiz Meneghel Campus, in Bandeirantes, Paraná, Brazil, using a randomized complete block design with fourteen treatments and six replications for D. insularis and five replications for Chloris spp.. Treatments consisted of glufosinate applied alone and mixtures of glufosinate or glyphosate with MSMA, metribuzin, nicosulfuron, imazamox, imazethapyr, and clomazone. Weed control was visually assessed using a percentage rating scale at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 42 days after application (DAA). The data were subjected to analysis of variance, and treatment means were compared using the Scott-Knott test at the 5% significance level. For D. insularis, treatments containing glufosinate provided faster initial control than glyphosate-based mixtures, with the glufosinate + imazamox mixture showing the highest control levels throughout the experimental period. A similar response was observed for Chloris spp., with superior initial control obtained by glufosinate-containing treatments and satisfactory performance of mixtures containing clomazone, imazamox, and imazethapyr. Overall, the highest control levels were recorded between 21 and 28 DAA, followed by a decline in control efficiency at 42 DAA due to weed regrowth. It was concluded that herbicide mixtures containing glufosinate, particularly in combination with imazamox, represent promising alternatives for the management of D. insularis and Chloris spp., contributing to the diversification of herbicide modes of action and reducing reliance on glyphosate for the management of these important weed species.

Grain sorghum stands out as an alternative for the second harvest, but its development is strongly influenced by the climate. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of different sowing dates on the agronomic and productive performance of the crop. The field experiment was conducted in the municipality of Bandeirantes, Paraná. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used, with four treatments corresponding to the sowing dates (02/01, 02/15, 03/02, and 03/16) and four replications. The phenological cycle, plant loss percentage, height, culm diameter, thousand-grain weight, and productivity were evaluated. The results demonstrated that delayed sowing significantly prolonged the crop cycle, varying from 109 days in the first treatment to up to 138 days in the march sowing. Although the initial crop establishment and productivity did not show statistical differences among the dates, late sowings caused fluctuations in plant height and thousand-grain weight, which decreased from 33.0 g to 31.4 g. Therefore, to ensure greater thousand-grain weight and agronomic security in the region, cultivation is preferentially recommended in February.

Current agriculture has been intensifying studies in order to reduce the environmental impacts caused by pesticides. Humic and fulvic substances are organic compounds derived from the decomposition of plant and animal waste from the environment, which can be used as alternative inputs for the management of various crops. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of humic and fulvic substances on the chemical and microbiological attributes of the soil in the soybean crop. The test was carried out in the field in the city of Itambaracá-PR., where the use of two doses of substances based on humic and fulvic acids with and without association with Bacillus sp. were evaluated, totaling 6 treatments and 5 repetitions. The chemical and microbiological attributes of the soil were evaluated before planting and at the flowering stage (R2), soil samples were collected at a depth of 0 - 10 cm and macronutrients, pH and organic matter present in the soil were evaluated. In the microbiological analyses, Microbial Biomass Carbon (CBM), Soil Basal Respiration (RBS), microbial and metabolic quotient were evaluated to determine the microbial activity. The agronomic parameters evaluated were fresh and dry mass of shoots and roots, dry weight of nodules and productivity. The results show little variation in the chemical attributes, however there is a considerable improvement in the concentration of organic matter in areas that received humic and fulvic substances at a dose of 4 L ha-1, a fact also observed in the microbiological attributes in treatment without the addition of Bacillus sp. In terms of agronomic attributes, the treatments did not differ statistically compared to the control. As a consequence of the improvement in organic matter and microbiological attributes, better plant development is observed and also an increase in productivity of 10 to 14 bags per hectare, with a dose of 4 L ha-1 without and with association of Bacillus sp. It is concluded that substances based on humic and fulvic acids at a dose of 4 L ha-1 with or without association with Bacillus sp. promoted improvement in the microbiological attributes of the soil and consequently in the development of the soybean crop.

One of the main economic losses in sheep farming is gastrointestinal nematode infections. The indiscriminate use of chemicals to control these parasites has contributed to the appearance of anthelmintic resistance in several countries including Brazil. Studies carried out with the objective of controlling the parasites and reducing the impacts of resistance have related several tannins plants with anthelmintic properties, especially Musa spp. The banana tree (Musa spp.) is widely distributed mainly in countries with a tropical climate; its cultivation focused on food purposes due to its nutritional value. The present study aimed to evaluate the anthelminthic action of the hydroalcoholic extract of the floral bud of the banana tree (HEB) to 10% in eggs and larvae of gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep, as well as its antioxidant activity. Samples of naturally infected sheep were used with a minimum egg count of 2,000 eggs per gram of feces (EPG), and egg hatchability tests (EHT) and larval migration inhibition test (LMIT) were performed. In addition, total polyphenols, condensed tannins, flavonoids, and antioxidant activity of the extract were determined. Five concentrations of HEB (20; 40; 80; 160 and 320 mg mL-1), negative control with distilled water (NC) and positive control with Albendazole Sulfide (PC) were tested in quadruplicate. In relation to EHT, HEB inhibited 82.57% in the concentration of 160 mg mL-1, reaching 100% in the concentration of 320 mg mL-1. In relation to LMIT, HEB inhibited 90.30% in the concentration 80 mg mL-1, 94.80% in the concentration of 160 mg mL-1, reaching 100% in the concentration of 320 mg mL-1. The HEB (10 mg mL-1) presented 0.38 mg EAG g-1 of total polyphenols, 372.70 mg EAT g-1 of tannins, 0.42 mg RE g-1 of flavonoids, and antioxidant activity of 43.03% with IC50 corresponding to 0.2765 mg mL-1. The activity of the extract could be related to the phenolic compounds present in the extracts, specifically condensed tannins. Thus, it was possible to verify the anthelmintic and antioxidant activity of the HEB, demonstrating its potential in the control of verminosis in sheep. In addition, these results are of great importance for organic, agroecological and biodynamic production systems, whose use of synthetic parasiticides is not allowed.
