The electrical conductivity test is recommended to classify lots of soybean seeds as to vigor; however, the temperature and the soaking period of seeds during the execution of this test can significantly influence the results obtained for seed samples of the same batch, causing the electrical conductivity test, even though it is validated for soybean seed analysis, to still present limitations that need to be studied to improve procedures. The present study aimed to verify the influence of temperature and period of imbibition used in electrical conductivity tests on the classification of soybean seed lots regarding vigor. Nineteen soybean seed lots of cultivars 64HO114, M6210, AS3730 and AS3680 were used, exempt from phytosanitary treatment. The seeds were evaluated for water content determination, germination test, first reading of the germination test, accelerated aging, and seedling emergence tests in commercial substrate, sand, and in the field. The electrical conductivity test was conducted with 75 mL of deionized water and samples of 50 seeds, using three temperatures (20 °C, 25 °C and 30 °C) and two imbibition periods (2 and 24 hours) as treatments. The design was completely randomized with 4 replications of 50 seeds of each lot per treatment. The data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance and means were grouped by the Scott-Knott test at 5%. The results verified that after 2 hours of imbibition, at the three temperatures, it was not possible to separate lots of soybean seeds according to vigor, with all lots being classified as high vigor. After 24 hours of soaking and at all temperatures, it was possible to verify differences between the lots as to vigor; however, the classification of lots did not correspond to that observed in the accelerated aging test. Although the factors of temperature and period of imbibition influenced the results of the electrical conductivity test, it became evident that there is a factor of greater influence and, therefore, it is essential that new research take place that includes other factors not investigated in the present study.
